Step #3- Ask for What You Want

We’re back with Step #3 of our journey to save your marriage. We’ve already set the stage by approaching your relationship with an open mind and setting clear goals. Now, it’s time to ask for what you want. Let’s dive in and learn how effective communication can be a game-changer!

Step #3: Ask for What You Want

You’ve charted your course, and you know where you want your marriage to go. The next step is to share your dreams and desires with your spouse. Here’s how to do it effectively:

Share Your Thoughts with Your Spouse

After setting your specific goals, it’s essential to have an open and honest conversation with your partner. However, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Here are some key things to remember:

Know Your Partner Well: Before approaching your spouse, try to understand their perspective. Put yourself in their shoes. If your goal is to have more quality time together, think about why they might have been distant in the first place. Try to avoid blame and focus on solving the problem as a team.

Make sure Your Requests Can Be Done: When asking for what you want, make sure your requests are specific and achievable. For example, if you want better communication, ask your partner to call you at least once while at work to update you about their day. Concrete requests lead to concrete results.

Choose the Right Moments: Timing is so important. Some topics may be better discussed during a romantic dinner date rather than at home after a long day at work. Find the right moments when your partner is open to having a conversation.

Think About Your Approach: When you ask for what you want, do it in a non-confrontational way. Avoid finger-pointing and blame. Instead, express your desires and needs with love and understanding.

Show Gratitude: Don’t forget to remind your partner of how much you appreciate their efforts. A little appreciation can go a long way in making your partner feel valued and loved.

But What If Asking Doesn’t Work?

In some cases, your partner may not respond the way you hope. They might be uncertain about the future of your marriage. If your relationship is on shaky ground, it might not be the right time to ask for more.

Instead, focus on showing your partner the wonderful life you both could have together. Make them want more by doing things that highlight the joy and fulfillment of your relationship.
